![]() All rooms also feature perks like complimentary Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. The property's 460 guest rooms provide impressive sea views from their private balconies or terraces you can enjoy the scenery with a drink in hand thanks to the in-suite liquor dispensers. But what sets this Riu Palace resort apart from its sister property is its sweeping views and top-notch service. Just outside their guest rooms, travelers will find six different restaurants, five bars, the Renova Spa, four pools (including a children's pool) and activities like tennis, kayaking and volleyball. We will look forward to your review.Sharing oceanfront real estate with its sibling the Hotel Riu Palace Mexico, the all-inclusive Hotel Riu Palace Riviera Maya offers guests access to the pristine Playacar beaches of Playa del Carmen and all the amenities of the Riu Palace complex. ![]() Have fun and keep us posted on which resort you choose. I would recommend using a Travel Agent for a package price which is great plus you have a real person to talk to. These resorts are my personal experience. ![]() (Some you may see the ocean in the distance ). The Catalonia Royal Tulum is a lower end AO resort with a fabulous beach. You can snorkel in front of the resort to see the turtles, walk into town and have a really good time. The ocean views are nice, food and entertainment is good. SA is a beautiful resort with more of a jungle feel to it. The service is fantastic, food and entertainment is good, and the ocean views are great. The only problem with ERC is that the ocean is a murky color and it gets hit hard with sargassum during sargassum season which is late February through August. Full disclosure, we haven’t visited since Hyatt took over.ĮRC is a very nice resort. Entertainment is good, food is good, but most of the rooms are ocean views. Because it was less than 24 hours notice, we lost the cost of 1 nights stay.īeloved is another AO property of the Excellence group but it lacks entertainment-no theater shows to my knowledge. I had a bad experience with my flight being canceled at 10 PM the night before we were to fly out at 5 AM the next morning. It’s also hard to get through to Excellence if you have a problem and they don’t offer insurance. They advertise “the cheapest rates “ on the internet by booking directly but add the air and insurance to the price and you are paying more. This increases the cost of the trip to buy insurance, air and room separately. ![]() Consequently, you have to purchase your airfare, insurance, and rooms separately. They have poor to almost nonexistent customer service. ![]() I won’t use them anymore because I had a bad experience. The only travel agency that they are using to my knowledge is Expedia. The other issue is that Excellence is cutting the travel agents out and encouraging direct booking with them. The ocean is swimmable but there is a lot of sea grass in it- more than several years ago. The problem with EPM as I see it is that most of the bars and entertainment ends at 11 PM. We prefer the resort feel to Cancun which has more of a Miami feel.ĮPM is a great resort but is now catering to groups which detract from the romantic feel the resort used to have, it does have great ocean views from the room, good food, and great evening entertainment. The southern part of the Playa Mujeres area is Excellence Playa Mujeres (EPM), Beloved, then there’s Cancun proper with fantastic AO resorts like Live Aqua, Secrets the Vine, the Sun Palace then south is Secrets Maroma Beach SMB ( my favorite), Excellence Riviera Cancun ERC, Secrets Akumal (SA), and the Catalonia Royal Tulum and the Valentin Imperial Maya (VIM), Each of these resorts have great points and drawbacks. There’s lovely resorts south of Cancun but during sargassum season they have a tended to get hit. The one thing that I like about the Playa Mujeres area is the protection of the Isla Mujeres island to deter sargassum from reaching the mainland. ![]()
